MHS presents Phantom of the Opera

The longest running Broadway musical will come to McKinney High School Jan. 31-Feb. 2 when the McKinney Golden Mane Theatre introduces its brand new 1,000-seat Performing Arts Center with this legendary musical.

The Phantom of the Opera first opened at the West End in London in 1986 and was immediately recognized as a masterpiece. It moved to Broadway in 1988 and won several Tony Awards including Best Musical. It has remained on Broadway ever since, securing its place as the longest-running Broadway musical in history.

At the height of a Paris opera house in the last 1800s, Christine Daee, a young chorus girl with a beautiful voice, becomes entranced by a mysterious masked man known as the Phantom. The Phantom, who has been terrorizing the opera house for years, becomes obsessed with Christine, demanding that she is given the lead role in his operas. However, Christine is reunited with her childhood love, Rauol. The Phantom’s obsession drives the opera house into madness as Christine must choose between the captivating masked man and her childhood love.
