Shawn Pratt Bio

Shawn has led McKinney ISD as the Director of Athletics since 2009.  He oversees the athletic programs and coaches for 3 High School campuses and 5 Middle School campuses.  He is also a member of the McKinney ISD Superintendent’s Cabinet.  Shawn is currently the President of Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, and was named the Region III Athletic Director of the Year for Texas in 2016 & 2019. 

Mr. Pratt played an integral role in bringing the NCAA Division II Football National Championship to McKinney in 2018, and has earned the bid to continue hosting the championship for 3 more years at the McKinney ISD Stadium and Community Event Center.   

Shawn began his teaching and coaching career at Slaughter Middle School in McKinney where he was the Campus Athletic Coordinator.   He moved up to the High School level in 1995 as the Varsity Assistant Football Coach for McKinney High School, which was the only High School in McKinney at that time.  When McKinney opened a 2nd High School, McKinney North High School, Shawn was selected as the Campus Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach, and remained in that position until 2009 when he became the Director of Athletics for all McKinney campuses. 

 Shawn is a member of Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, NIAAA, Texas High School Coaches Association, Texas Girls Coaches Association, American Football Coaches Association, National Football Foundation, Association of Texas Professional Educators, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and McKinney Education Foundation.  

 He has received numerous awards which include receiving McKinney North High School’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2001, McKinney High School’s Teacher of the Year in 1995, and was a nominee for the McKinney Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Teaching Award.  He served as the THSADA Region III Director from 2014-2016, and was a UIL Sponsor Award Winner in 2008. 

 Shawn is married to Deanne and they have 3 children: Collin who is a junior at TCU, Cade who will be a senior in high school , and Whitley who will be a high school sophomore. Shawn enjoys fishing, hunting, and watching his kids compete in their various sports.
