  • Sports Talk (Ep.294) – WRESTLING David Clayton from McKinney Boyd:
  • When Kiel Simas took the mat saturday night in the second to last match of the UIL 6A Regional Finals, his Allen opponent, one of 11 eagles in the finals, thought it would be a good idea to go "upper body" and try to "throw" with Kiel. He was wrong. Kiel stepped across on his patented headlock and after a short struggle ended the bout with a fall in 1 minute and 41 seconds silencing the home crowd. Kiel goes into next week's State Tournament as one of four #1 seeds and looks to win Boyd's 3rd individual state title. In winning Saturday Kiel became just the 3rd wrestler to win a regional title in Boyd school history. Also qualifying for the Broncos was sophomore 182 pounder Collin McCoy who placed 3rd and freshman 106 pounder Adam Maestas who took 4th. Senior Matt Morse placed fifth in a very competitive 285 pound class. He will be the first alternate for next weeks state tournament in Garland. Also placing for the Broncs were Jordan Baker (113) and Jesus Carrillo (120) who both took 6th. Boyd finished 6th overall as a team out of 28 teams participating, their best regional tournament finish in school history.
